Client work: United States vs Russia
Posted on 21. Oct, 2009 by Jess in charts and graphs, client work, economics, government, military
Here is one in a series I am doing for Mint.com. It is a comparison of the United States and Russia over 100 factors. I have used the same format in comparing China, Canada and Mexico, and India. Pretty popular stuff, with over 4500 Diggs between them.
The first thing most people notice is that are the ‘charts’ are numberless and have no scale. Then they either complain that it’s all meaningless without numbers, or they understand that the scale IS the comparison, and numbers are irrelevant. Think of them as sparklines, only in bar form.
These are meant to be a survey of these two nations, not a data centric infographic. If you want the numbers, then go to the sources and slog through it. I think they convey the intended information very quickly and efficiently. Even the title plays dual use as the legend.

If you want to support my work, please digg it, retweet it, or other wise spread the good word! It is your duty, my comrades.
Thanks!

I’m a Visual Facilitator and love your work. . . “Death & Taxes” is over-the-top. Russia vs the US is great. I’m sure you’ve seen the video piece “Did You Know?” (”Shift Happens”) You might consider joining forces with those 3 guys and producing their video as a poster. I would buy it in a heartbeat.
